Science

In science we have been learning about the 3 common states of matter, and on Friday we focused on the state of liquid. After discussing the different properties of a liquid we set to work to predict what would happen if we added water, rubbing alcohol, dish washing liquid, glycerol and vegetable oil to a clear container. In our groups, we worked very well at carefully pouring each liquid into the cup and soon we had some pleasant looking results. We discovered that when these liquids are added to the same container, not only do they take up the shape of the container, but they also layer themselves depending on their density (density is a measurement that compares the amount of matter an object has to its volume). We were quite surprised at how the liquids layered themselves, with only one student correctly predicting the order of the liquids. Everyone enjoyed working together as a team to find out the results.

What's been happening in Room 26...

Over the last few weeks we have been doing some exciting things in our class. Some of those things include working with our Buddy Class. We recently had a fun afternoon with our little buddies creating code to make our Bee Bots move around. We also teamed up with other groups to get our Bee Bots to dance together. Mr Meachem joined in with our technology afternoon and created a secret code for us to use. We had to enter the code into the Bee Bots then they raced against each other. It was so much fun! End of Year Party!!

Room 26 will be having a Christmas Party on Wednesday 18th December. The students can bring their own games and electronic devices to play with after recess (it is their responsibility). We will then have food and party games in the afternoon. Could Year 5 girls please bring a plate of savory and Year 5 boys bring a plate of sweet food to share. Thanks for your support.
